There are a number of COVID-19 projects supervised by Dr Nicole Robb and Professor Achillefs Kapanidis (fellow of St Cross) in the University of Oxford Physics Department. DPhil student Andrew McMahon (pictured, funded by the Royal Society and at St Cross College) has been investigating infection dynamics of the virus through mathematical modelling as well as using super resolution microscopy to study virus particle structure. Also, Andrew has been aiding DPhil student Nicolas Shiaelis (funded through the BBSRC Doctoral Training Program and at St Anne’s College) on his project on rapid coronavirus diagnosis using machine learning and single-molecule microscopy.
