Fellow Professor Chris Adam Receives AfOx Research Development Award

St Cross Fellow Chris Adam, Professor of Development Economics within the Department of International Development, has received a Research Development Award from AfOx (Africa Oxford Initiative).

The award, given jointly to Prof Adam and colleague Dr Augustino Mayai, will support the project "Understanding the impacts of development policies in fragile contexts: the case of South Sudan". Their first project was supported by the AfOx Visiting Fellowship Programme in 2019, where Prof Adam and Dr Mayai evaluated the health extension programme on child health in Ethiopia, and developed the idea of evaluating the government fuel subsidy and DfID-funded Girl Education programmes in South Sudan.

The AfOx Research Development Award will allow them to measure the impacts of the government fuel subsidy and the Girl Education programmes to inform local and international policy on the economy and human capital development in South Sudan.
