Alumni Benefits

All former students of St Cross College have the right to become a Member of Common Room at the end of their studies. MCR status enables members to continue to play an active role in College life, attending all Feasts, Special Dinners, Lectures and events. A small deposit and a termly subscription fee applies. If you would like to apply, please complete the application form.

Staying in Touch

Alumni receive a termly email with updates and details of the many events held globally to which they are invited. We also provide regular communications on Facebook and Twitter, and facilitate online networking through our private LinkedIn group.

Degree Days & Graduation

Graduation is the formal end to your degree and in order to mark this important occasion students are invited to attend a ceremony at the Sheldonian Theatre.

In order to attend a Degree Ceremony, students must book their place via the University's online portal

For all students completing their taught course from Trinity Term 2013 onwards the University will write to you in the preceding Michaelmas term offering you a choice of dates for your degree ceremony. Research students will be written to by the University once they have been granted leave to supplicate for their degree. Historic students (i.e. those who completed their degrees prior to Trinity Term 2013) will still need to contact the St Cross Academic Office to make a booking.

Ordering certificates and transcripts

Degree certificates are issued automatically prior to each degree ceremony and are handed out on the day (or posted on the first working day after the ceremony to those who took their degree In Absentia). Additional certificates can be ordered from the University website (please note, charges for additional certificates will apply).

For students who commenced their studies in and after Michaelmas term 2007, transcripts can be requested from the University website. For students who commenced their studies prior to 2007, transcript requests should be directed to the Academic Office.

Alumni Research

The College library has an alumni and member book collection, and we warmly welcome donations of published works which we will be delighted to showcase. Please get in touch with the College librarian (

Please note that the College does not hold any theses or dissertations by any members or alumni. This is the responsibility of the Oxford University Research Archive and they should be your first point of contact if you would like to access the thesis of any St Cross member. 


Visiting and staying in College

If you are passing through Oxford and would like to visit College, we would love to welcome you back. Please email the Development Team, who will be able to arrange fob access, a tour, or perhaps lunch or dinner, depending on the nature of your visit.

Alumni are entitled to take lunch in College twice per term at the rate of £12.35/head. Please contact the Development Team with at least a day's notice if you would like to come in to lunch. Payment is by direct bank transfer.
Should you wish to come into College for lunch more frequently, you might consider Membership of Common Room, which entitles you to lunch five times a week (from 1 August 2019).

Alumni members are entitled to reduced rate guest accommodation in the College. Please see the guest accommodation page for details (College Member rates apply for Alumni).

Supporting St Cross

Our aim is to preserve and enhance those aspects of St Cross which make our College special, nurturing our stimulating environment where productive academic relationships flourish between members of the College in different disciplines at all levels.

St Cross has always worked hard to ensure good stewardship of its resources, and this has enabled the College to achieve a stable financial position. However, the demands placed on the endowment by the needs of a 21st-century learning environment, in a landscape of decreasing government funding for Universities, means the support of our members becomes crucial.

If you would like to support the College, donations can be made online or by completing and returning a donation form (download UK form | download US form).

All gifts, regardless of size, are gratefully received and are set to work developing and expanding some of the brightest minds in the world.

Alumni FAQs

Alumni are very welcome to book the College punt. The Bursary Administrator Jocelyn Larsen ( can arrange this for you, please give as much notice as possible to avoid disappointment, as the punt is booked up quickly. Jocelyn will then prepare a slip for you to take to Cherwell Boathouse. The punting season is mid-March to mid-October but punting is currently suspended due to Covid-19. 

If you're passing through Oxford, you are welcome to have lunch in College. The 2019/20 lunch rate for alumni and their guests is £11.75. Please let us know when you are likely to visit and we can ensure the Lodge are notified of your visit, and you can be provided with a temporary fob if necessary. Lunch is served Monday - Friday, 12:15 - 13:45.
