St Cross Vice-Master Professor Andrew Pollard, Live talk with Q&A 

“Coronavirus Vaccines: The Way Out of the Pandemic”  

Over 130 vaccines are in development around the world. Since January 2020, researchers at Oxford University have been working on a vaccine against the pandemic virus and are now in phase III trials around the world to test whether the new vaccine can prevent infection and thus could help to end the pandemic.

St Cross Alumna Yasmin Ahmed in conversation with St Cross Alumnus Abdul Rad Live talk with Q&A  

"Post-Oxford: Returning to Somalia and working in the Security Sector Reform of Somalia” 

Contributing to the peace-building and state building efforts in Somalia is what brought Yasmin Ahmed to Oxford to study the Master of Public Policy. 2 years on, she has returned to Somalia and supports the Federal Government of Somalia in the implementation of the UN Arms Embargo.      

Abdul Rad is currently a researcher at the NYC Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice who has led research efforts on the landscape of 911 calls for service, Arrest Trends and a range of other policing projects that are focused on alternatives to arrest.

“Let’s Talk Water: Human Rights and Legal Personhood for Water in the Anthropocene” 

A discussion of the global rights of nature movement and the policy implications for water governance in the Anthropocene. As our world adapts to a global pandemic and ongoing climate crisis how can we further our understanding of the layered water injustices facing frontline communities across our planet including Black, Indigenous, Peoples of Colour (BIPOC). Join us in conversation as we explore our paths forward for a shared sustainable future.

Pour yourself a nice cup of tea and join the Master for an update on College activities and events over the past year.  The Master will present highlights including recent achievements by St Cross Alumni and Fellows and a ‘tour’ of St Cross College’s rooms and buildings.

“Evolution of Identity” 

Identity is defined many ways.  As an elite athlete, mine was singular: I was a rower. But then, I entered the “real world” and rapidly learned I needed to be more than a rower and develop new goals with often twisting and turning paths to process. I needed both a new mindset and to craft a new identity. 

 

 

We are also delighted to advise that St Cross Fellow, Rana Mitter, Professor of the History and politics of Modern China, will be speaking in the Central University’s Meeting Minds Programme at 09.30 am on Saturday 12th September:
