In Hilary Term 2017 St Cross College launched its own Law Society, thanks to the efforts of Sandro Wiggerich (MJur, 2016). The College has a growing number of students studying for law-related degrees, including students following the BCL, MJur and DPhil programmes, and the Society is aimed at promoting the study of law and providing college members with opportunities to engage with like-minded peers, alumni, and more senior members of the legal profession.

The Society is open to members of St Cross College who have an interest in law, regardless of their specific degree disciplines and research concentration. Associate membership is also available to graduate students at other colleges who do not have access to a collegiate law society.

We currently have keen interests in art and heritage, estate/succession and private clients, and cross-border issues arising in the foregoing. These are by no means exclusive, but somewhat distinguish us from the University’s Law Society, which tends to focus on areas such as public international law.

The Society is currently working on creating a termly e-newsletter, so those student-lawyers who are interested in writing and/or editing are also encouraged to reach out to us. From Michaelmas 2018, the Society will be working in close collaboration with the College Librarian on an annual buying scheme thanks to the support of a generous donor, which gives us a say on the development of the College Library’s law holdings.

We hold a termly drinks reception at the end of Hilary and Trinity terms, and a formal dinner at the beginning of Trinity. We also put together ad hoc chats and brainstorming sessions at the College Café and Bar, or at The Oxford University Club (Mansfield Road) which is a short walk from the Law Faculty.

To help finance the Society's activities, a one-time Life Membership fee of £8 will be requested. If you would like to join the St Cross Law Society as a Life Member, please send an email stating your name, College, degree programme and legal interests to law.society@stx.ox.ac.uk.

St Cross College is joint with Wolfson College Boat Club (WCBC) and it is one of the largest college boat clubs in Oxford. We are a competitive and successful squad, but also a great community and way to make friends while developing a new sport!

WCBC is a dynamic community of students and fellows and is very active in the life of the college. Social events take place throughout the year, including crew dates, barbecues, bops, and the famous boat club dinners after each major regatta. We train year-round on the Isis and compete in regattas within Oxford and beyond.

Whether you are an experienced oarsman, you want to try out a new challenging sport, or you just fancy a nice paddle with some friends, WCBC is for you! We are always looking for new rowers, coxes, coaches, and supporters. If you’re new to Oxford, look for us at the Freshers’ Fair events at both Wolfson and St. Cross colleges. If you’re joining at some other time of year, fill out this form and a captain will be in touch with you right away! For any further information, visit our website.

Please note: Members pay a subscription cost of 20£ per term which is charged to battels.
