Sahana Narayan

Welfare Representative (Female) (she/her)

Hi! I’m Sahana, your new Female Welfare Rep and a DPhil student in Women’s and Reproductive Health. My research looks at how clinicians interpret fetal monitoring data during labor and delivery and how those interpretations shape communication, consent, and decision-making, so women’s health/welfare, autonomy, and intentional support are very much at the heart of what I do!

My perspective for this role comes from one of my favorite words, sonder, which is the realization that everyone around us has an immensely full, complicated, beautiful life that we rarely get to witness in its entirety. Since I come from the world of mixed-methods public health and maternal health research, I am particularly invested in using that notion to create the space and place for you and your stories, in whatever form, font, size, or vibe! Welfare is not a one-size-fits-all approach (much like thoughtful medical care isn’t) so my goal is to make this space genuinely useful and responsive to YOU.

I’m originally from Denver, Colorado, and this is my first time living in the UK — so I’m embracing all the British quirks, from finally living in a place that wholeheartedly supports my tea addiction, to unrefrigerated eggs, non-intuitive place-name pronunciations, and wrapping my head around the NHS.

You’ll often spot me around college in a colorful beret or fluffy hat, and I always love to chat, so if you see me around (or just need someone to talk to), please don’t hesitate to say hello or drop me a line!
